SYTYCD#4 Episode 5 Results Show

Not exactly a surprising outcome last night but a very enjoyable results show, nonetheless.

GroupNumber

The opening group routine from Tabitha and Napolean included special glow enabled costumes and allowed them to paint pictures with the light during the dark sections of the dance.

TabithaNapoleon

Unfortunately, the camera men tried their best to ruin the experience as usual. I had to watch the opening number a few times before I even realized there is a neat section where the dancers use the lights to create a bow and arrow, which shoots across the stage to hit a neon heart.

This is the bow and arrow. The heart was impossible to catch in a still frame because the camera men were off to the side, causing the heart to be very oblique as well as obscured by the “arrow”.

GroupNumberArrow

Crazy camera-men, I shake my fist at you! Rrrrrr. Maybe it was just me. Maybe everyone else saw this the first time through.

Best parts of the group routine were Gev getting to show off a little bit, and Will up front just killing the hip-hop. I hope he gets a hip-hop number soon, once he gets a new partner.

Before I get started, does anyone know what the “IV Real” T-shirts stand for? There is a charity called 4Real, but they don’t seem to use that type of logo for anything, and all their branding uses a “4″. I can’t find an answer anywhere on the net either.

Josh & Comfort both wearing the shirt:

Twitch too.

And Will:

I did notice that it was every black member of the show, but not a hip-hop thing since Will had one and Gev didn’t. If anyone knows, please clue me in!

The solos last night were pretty decent. I particularly liked the Twitch and Will solos. Twitch did his special take on a conductor, danced to a song with lovely violin solos. I guess he had a wardrobe malfunction at the end, where he tried to show off his undershirt (I assume it had a big T crest like Twitch instead of Superman. That’s what it looked like to me but he never got his shirt open properly)

Twitch

Will did a tribal fusion inspired solo, with lots of precise body movements and difficult transitions. Is there anything that a human body is capable of, that Will can’t do?

Will

Leap off the stage - Where do they find these silly little teeny-boppers who just clap and cheer and go crazy? P.S. How do I get in the audience? ;)

Will2

Thayne turned in the same solo he does every week, complete with identical black pants and wifebeater, and random emo song that sounds just like all the others. I like the guy. He does have a fantastic smile, which I personally believe is genuine. He just doesn’t have that extra Umpph to be in the top Ten.

Thayne

Verdict:

ThayneJasperson150out

Thayne is gone not because he sucks but just because every dancer left is better. No reason to cry over the ousting. Mia Michaels sounds serious about hiring him for some project. Nigel basically told Thayne they’d rather boot Jessica and keep him, but they can’t because.. you know… penis.

Good luck Dr. Smiles.

Debbie Allen breaths a sigh of relief:

DebbieAllen

She may have a literal heart attack if Will doesn’t win. Hope the medics are handy.

The guest performers were fantastic! Three dancers from the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre do an amazingly athletic and graceful routine called Revelations.

GuestDancers

The song kicked ass too. “Sinner Man” by Billy Pointer. I love the artist. I’m pretty sure he does the “Where you gonna run to?” song that accompanies the final heist in the Thomas Crown Affair.

Comfort kicked it up a bit for her solo, but it’s still nothing spectacular. I’m pretty sure she had to know she was going home if they ended up in the bottom this time. She doesn’t give up though.

Comfort

I actually liked Jessica solo the best out of these three, and I don’t like Jessica very much at all. Comfort’s was better than the last one, but still vaguely boring, and Kherington’s was just the same contemporary steps we see all the time. The judges praised it more highly than I felt it deserved though.

Jessica

None of the girl’s solos were outstanding, but none were awful. Everyone had to know Comfort was going home.

Kherington

Verdict:

ComfortFedoke150out

Comfort never improved or showed much sign of life throughout the competition. She took on ballroom and other unfamiliar styles and ended up doing a serviceable job, but also didn’t perform above and beyond in her specialty.

She had some decent parts in group numbers, but it was time for her to go. They’ve kicked off almost entirely full couples this year. I wonder if that is with concern for the tour. Hmmm.

Oh almost forgot, I thought that somehow we had fallen into a crack in space-time and flown out in an alternate reality where Cat Deeley doesn’t wear clothes conceived by Circus Freaks taking LSD. I mean, she walked out in this:

Cat6

But, we are all saved in the end, and we are definitely still in the correct reality, because they went fracking INSANE on her hair. I think it could have hosted the show on it’s own last night.

Cat6b

The back of her head is shaped like the crazy melon on the Aliens from Aliens.

Cat6c

Here it is officially taking over interviewing duties:

“Don’t make me call the lads in with the lead piping.” - actual quote

Last but not least, that silly Musical guest singing that “Provocative song” TM - I think she’s a missing Deschanel sister. Peep this:

Thats about all I could find.

Am very happy with who was sent packing.

Kats hair looked like she had a tumor in the back and a comma flying out the front!

My TV did not record the opening number so I missed it!!!

That Is Entertainment Weekly explaining the t-shirts. If you ask me, it sort of makes the 4 of them sound like jerks.

FYI: The “Where ya gonna run to?” song from The Thomas Crown Affair (one of my favorite movies, largely due to that scene and that song in that scene) IS Sinnerman. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinnerman)

The line in the song is actually “Sinnerman where you gonna run to?”

Thanks for posting that. I heard there was a drop-out but I wasn’t sure who yet. Also, DAMN that is going to be rough for Comfort getting cut two weeks in a row! I mean, unless she pulls some fantastic new skills out of her butt, she’s heading right back out. Jessica was the only girl left who I would have put equal or below Comfort in the competition.

Well shoot. Now I know why I recognized it! I agree that scene “makes” that movie. Thanks Doug!
